We are happy to take you for a walk in the area known as “Le Fonds des Princes”. Surrounded by the Serres d’Auteuil, Rolland Garros, the Parc des Princes, you can discover, according to the inspiration of your Greeter of the day, from the Porte d’Auteuil to the center of Boulogne, the very residential face of the city where many scholars, painters and sculptors were invited at the dawn of the last century for whom the best architects of the time showed all their talent and their sense of novelty This vibrant and colorful district combines the energy and classicism of Paris with the originality and modernity of the villas and private mansions of the 1930s in Boulogne.

A veritable architectural laboratory, Boulogne-Billancourt saw the emergence of the foundations of modern architecture and, in particular, the art of the 1930s. Art Deco and Modern Art, regionalist style – witness this preserved collective and individual heritage in the company of one of our Greeters, and discover masterpieces left by the greatest names of this era: Louis Faure-Dujarric, Constant Lefranc, Le Corbusier, Robert Mallet-Stevens, Auguste Perret, André Lurçat, and many others…

Come and discover the contemporary face of our city which has replaced the working class city, the one that Jean-Paul Sartre did not want to despair in front of the Renault factories. In a completely redesigned urban landscape, with the creations of the greatest architectural names of our time, Norman Foster, Dominique Perrault, Christian de Portzamparc, Jean-Paul Viguier, our Greeter will not fail to make you appreciate the impressive Horizons tower by Jean Nouvel, the delightful Billancourt park and the very young Seine Musicale whose renown is increasingly extending beyond its auditorium sphere.

Stories in the woods
After exploring the landscaped grounds of the Auteuil racecourse (completed in 2014), we will cross the Bois de Boulogne, its lakes and mysterious groves before discovering the Château de Longchamp, which now houses Goodplanet, an exhibition space created in 2017 by Yann Arthus-Bertrand and entirely dedicated to ecology and diversity.
This 5 km walk will allow us to better understand the history of this wood, its forest management, its mythical characters and among them Queen Margot, Diderot’s Nun, not forgetting Napoleon III or Santos-Dumont.

The Rothschild Castle
Come and discover, in the company of a passionate local expert, the history of the former grand Rothschild estate in Boulogne, its park and the grounds of the château, from the elements that have disappeared to those still in place, all testaments to a residence that was admired by high society at the time.

Who are we?
We are volunteers from Boulonnais, members of the International Association of Greeters. We wish to make discover “our Boulogne” to visitors, as we would do for friends. We are neither guide-interpreters nor qualified lecturers, but curious inhabitants, passionate about the richness of our city, who speak several languages, and who want to meet and welcome foreign people in Boulogne or in France. During the walk, the “greeter” will walk with you in the streets of a neighborhood he loves for the richness of its past or for its architecture, its markets, its cafés, its craftsmen or its artists…

ON THE TRACES OF ALBERTO SANTOS DUMONT AND MARIE MARVINGT
One has been retained by history, the other is almost ignored. Et pourtant l’un et l’autre ont survolé le ciel du Parc des Coteaux de Saint Cloud au début du 20è siècle.
Nés pratiquement la même année (1875), ils auront tous 2, enfant, conduit une locomotive et dès 1900 une automobile, avaient la même taille, se seront envolés dans un ballon sphérique, échapperont à une mort certaine, seront célèbres et connus dans les années 1910, seront élevés au grade d’officiers de la Légion d’Honneur.
Mais pour l’un l’histoire s’arrêtera au début de la Grande Guerre tandis que pour l’autre, celle-ci sera l’occasion d’une célébrité supplémentaire. And yet the great History will remember Santos-Dumont and his feat of 1901 and ignore Marie Marvingt and her sporting prowess. Why did she hold the life of a man to that of a woman, that of the “flying Brazilian” to that of the “Fiancée of Danger”?

COLLINE DE MEUDON, LES 3 CHÂTEAUX
Meudon developed around three castles. We will take “La grande perspective” of Le Notre to reach the large terrace: the Old Castle was destroyed but the view on Paris is very beautiful. We will see the Orangery of the 17th century and the remaining part of Château Neuf that the Grand Dauphin had built by Mansart; it is home to the Observatory. A beautiful 16th century house that was inhabited among others by Ambrose Paré, surgeon of the king, Armande Béjart, after the death of Molière, now a museum of art and history, is on our way. Parisians built large country houses in the 19th century, in the middle of which circulate pleasant and fragrant scents.

ON THE EDGE OF THE BOULOGNE WOODS
To the west of the centre of Paris, near the Bois de Boulogne, the Jardins des Serres d’Auteuil, the Roland Garros tennis stadium and the houses of the great architects of the 1930s, an exclusive district at the gate of Paris where RENAULT, founded in Boulogne Billancourt had its factories, and where cinema created its most beautiful works.

Saint Cloud sidehills
Un Greeter vous racontera l’histoire de la colline, séparée en quatre parties distinctes, aux destins différents : la bourgeoise qui admire les vues et perspectives sur le Bois de Boulogne et Paris, l’ouvrière en bord de Seine, l’industrielle qui a participé à la naissance de l’aéronautique et la résidentielle pour familles en villégiature.
Ainsi vous irez à la découverte de Saint-Cloud en arpentant les sentes et petites rues dont les noms sont autant de traces de sa petite histoire. Through this itinerary, you will visit the districts of Coteaux, Val d’or, Montretout, Magenta and the “old town”, the particular architecture of each one corresponding to the history of the city as it has developed throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. You will also be on the edge of the Parc de Saint-Cloud, whose history is closely linked to the memories of the monarchy and the Empire.
